Peace / War (2018)
trumpet and SATB choir
4’30”
Program Note:
This composition is a bizarre nightmare. A chorus expresses statements of peace and war, but at various moments is interrupted by more sinister musical gestures; a trumpet, representing Death, acts as an interlocutor in the work. Nothing is stable for long. I was inspired to write this work from the tension and uncertainty of the world order in 2018.
Performances:
Nathan Plante, trumpet, and Choral Chameleon, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Brooklyn, New York, June 29, 2018.
